Fall / Winter Reading List: 2
I'm one book down, four to go!
I finished The Woods Are Dark by Richard Laymon just a few days after posting. It was a very quick read, but very disappointing. I was expecting much more detail in the horror of the story, but everything was lacking. Even the few love scenes were atrociously written. All-in-all, I probably won't pick up another book by Richard Laymon. It just left me wanting more.
Since I finished well before Halloween and wanted to keep the horror coming, I chose Galilee by Clive Barker next. It's a romance horror story, and so far it's living up to all of my Clive Barker expectations. It's a slow burn with Clive; I'm in part three of the book and I'm still learning backstory. I'm moving much slower with this one, but it is also much better. Of course, Clive Barker is my favorite author so my opinion of his work is little biased.

Fall / Winter Reading List
I'm very sad to say that my reading time diminishes drastically when I'm not on vacation. My time is spent mostly on training, practice, and knitting / baking when I'm back in the real world, but I still have my reading list picked out for these fall / winter nights when my fingers get too cold to hold my needles steady.
Snow Crash :: Neal Stephenson
I just finished reading this little gem yesterday. Martin recommended it, and it's brilliant! It's a sci-fi thriller that takes place in both the real world and the 'metaverse' - a computer world generated by top hackers.
The Endearment :: LaVyrle Spencer / The Woods are Dark :: Richard Laymon / The Lover's Dictionary :: David Levithan / Galilee :: Clive Barker / The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy :: Douglas Adams
To get in the proper mood for Halloween, I'm starting with the horror novel The Woods are Dark by Richard Laymon. I'm only one chapter in and the author sets the tone for the whole story on the very first page with the siting of a legless man-creature dragging himself across the road. Oh, yes! This is just the creepy crawly story this time of year begs for.

When Martin and I packed for the beach, we brought a multitude of book titles: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (all 5 books in one), Snow Crash, Diana F+, I, Lucifer, Evil Genius, and The End of Alice. So what books actually got read?

One. i, Lucifer by Glen Duncan.
A great little comedy about the devil getting a shot at redemption. I thought it would be a much darker comedy, but I was wrong. It stays pretty clean by my standards, though admittedly my standards are pretty low in that department when it comes to books.
Martin got through the first book in the Genius series. His review of 100 pages in consisted of him holding up the book and saying, "This is fucking brilliant!" At the end, "Didn't go where I thought it was going." Now he has to wait for me to add Genius Squad to my library to find out what happens next.
SURPRISE!
